Our customer found our 446 Stainless Steel Material Bars is superior in quality while saving them 5% cost from working with us.
Silver Steels is one of the leading manufacturer, wholesaler, stockist, exporter and trader of SS 446 Round Bars, which is low carbon modification of the Grade 410 stainless steel. commonly in many product forms, the grain size and carbon content can meet requirements of Stainless Steel 446 Square Bars. Low carbon and optionally a extra little addition of titanium and / or columbium minimize austenite formation at high temperatures, thereby restricting the ability of Stainless Steel 446 Flat Bars to harden. Stainless Steel 446 Threaded Bars is mostly used at cryogenic temperatures, with excellent toughness to -450 Degree F, and low magnetic permeability. Stainless Steel 446 Hollow Bars remains soft and ductile even when the material is rapidly cooled from above the critical temperature. Stainless Steel 446 Hex Bars is low hardening characteristic helps to prevent cracking when the steel is welded or exposed at high temperatures. Stainless Steel 446 box Bars are ferromagnetic and also completely ferritic in the annealed condition. Stainless Steel 446 Flat Bars have a machinability rating of 42 % relative, where when using high speed steel tooling, this equates to about 70 surface feet per minute. Stainless Steel 446 Rods maintains strength at great temperatures as well as sub – zero temperatures, where the cold worked (HS) version meets the mechanical properties of this alloy. 446 Stainless Steel Round Bars improves chloride pitting resistance and strengthens the alloy in any high temperature service.

Materiál 1.4762 : High corrosion resistance in oxidizing sulfur-containing and sulfur-reducing media
The material 1.4762 or X10CrAlSi25 is a heat-resistant, rustproof ferritic chrome steel with aluminum addition. According to the directional analysis, this material contains max. 0.12% carbon, max. 1.4% silicon, max. 1.0% manganese, max. 0.04% phosphorus, max. 0.015% sulfur, 23.0 - 26.0% chromium and 1.2 - 1.7% aluminum. The increased chromium content leads to corrosion resistance in the high temperature range, which is why this quality is characterized by its resistance to oxidizing sulfur-containing and - unlike 1.4742 - sulfur-reducing gases. Scale resistance in dry air is ensured up to a temperature range of 1,150 ° C due to the added chromium. 1.4762 offers design advantages over heat-resistant austenitic materials, because it has a higher thermal conductivity and less thermal expansion than this. In addition, it shows itself to be more tolerant of changing temperatures, but it should be noted that - unlike the austenites - the mechanical properties of this material drop sharply from a temperature of approx. 600 to 650 ° C.
Because a warming of 1.4762 to temperatures above approx. 950 ° C leads to an irreversible embrittlement of the material due to grain growth. The temperature range between 400 and 550 ° C is also critical. A longer stay in this temperature range must be avoided in any case in order to avoid the embrittlement at 475 ° C. The associated loss of ductility can be eliminated by briefly heating to temperatures between 700 ° C and 800 ° C.
It should also be noted that the toughness properties of 1.4762 are greatly reduced when used over a longer period in a temperature range of 600 - 900 ° C, since the material tends to become embrittled in this temperature range. This also results in a drastic deterioration in the corrosion resistance, which is why the material should not be used in this temperature range. This applies especially to mechanical stress on the material.
The scope of delivery of Georg Grimm Edelstahlgroßhandlung GmbH in quality 1.4762 includes steel bars (round, flat, square), sheet metal, sawn and forged special dimensions as well as welded and seamless pipes including pipe accessories.
1.4762: Good welding suitability with all common welding processes
1.4762 can be welded using common welding methods such as TIG, MAG solid wire, electric arc hand (E) and submerged arc welding. The semi-finished products should be processed in a stress-free, metallic, bare and dirt-free condition. Workpieces with wall thicknesses that are larger than 3mm can be processed at temperatures between 200 ° C to 300 ° C with higher alloyed welding consumables. Machinability of the grade 446 stainless steel is possible at slow speeds with positive feeds, rigid mounts and sharp tooling surfaces. The grade 446 stainless steel can be easily welded using most of the traditional methods except oxyacetylene welding. Caution should be exercised with austenitic weld metal in connection with the planned use of the workpiece in a carburizing sulfur-containing atmosphere. It is important to ensure that the austenitic weld bead is covered by a ferritic one in order to ensure the corrosion resistance of the material in the operating medium. 446 Stainless Steel is a high chromium ferritic alloy with excellent oxidation and sulfidation, Welding may be accomplished by conventional methods.
1.4762 is conditionally suitable for cold forming, ie for pressing, bending, flanging and deep drawing. Sheets with a wall thickness of up to 3 mm can be bent cold. Sometimes. preheating to approx. 200 ° C to 300 ° C is required.
446 Stainless Steel Hardness
446 is a ferritic stainless steel alloy melted as AOD. This alloy is non-hardenable but has excellent corrosion resistance at very higher temperatures and possesses good mechanical properties. This grade has poor ductility due to the high chromium content (roughly 25wt%).

Processing / Welding
Standard welding processes for this steel grade are:
- TIG-Welding
- MAG-Welding Solid Wire
- Arc Welding (E)
- Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
Ferritic chrome steels are heat sensitive. Therefore the steel 1.4762 should be welded with the lowest possible heat input by using thin electrode diameter, low current intensity and stringer bead welding. For wall thicknesses under 3mm, it is not necessary to preheat 1.4762. For thicker construction parts (˃ 3mm) the preheating and interpass temperatures 200 - 300°C should not be under respectively over run. 1.4762 can be processed with similar or higher alloyed filler metals. With sulphurous atmospheres a ferritic top layer should be laid on the media side (Thermanit L 1.4820).
Cold Forming
When cold forming 1.4762, certain preventative measures should be observed. Sheets up to 3mm thickness can be cold bent if necessary preheating with 200 - 300°C should be done. Products with thicknesses ˃ 3mm must be preheated up to 600 - 800°C, concerning machinability 1.4762 can be compared to a low carbon steel.
Embrittlement
While heating 1.4762 over about 950°C embrittlement by grain growth occurs, which cant be removed anymore. A further embrittlement occurs in the temperature range between 400 and 550°C (475°C embrittlement). A longer abidance within this temperature range should be avoided. This loss of ductility can be corrected by a short heating up to 700 to 800°C. In the temperature range of 600 to 900°C 1.4762 has the affinity to signma-phase-embrittlement, so that after longer application within this temperature range the ductile values are strongly reduced. The steel should not come into operation within this temperature range, if mechanical stress is existent.
